AT&T’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Updated to Android 2.1

You might not even remember that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 ever launched on AT&T, and a big reason why is that the phone hit the scene pretty late sporting a rather outdated version of Android. Today, the X10 can be upgraded to something a bit newer as the Android 2.1 update has been made available. This is the Android 2.1 update that X10 owners in other areas of the world have had the pleasure of getting to know for a few months now. It isn’t Gingerbread (or even Froyo), but it’s something.

Motorola Droid 3 Appears in Verizon Computer System, Launch Imminent?

It’s no guarantee, but the appearance of the Motorola DROID 3 in Verizon’s device management system could be an indicator that the handset will be launching soon. We have heard rumors of a June release, so the appearance of the Droid 3 in Verizon’s computers lines up nicely with that launch window. Other than hinting at a possible launch within the next few weeks, we don’t learn much about the third incarnation of the Droid from the screenshots provided. We do have a pretty good idea of what to expect, however. A dual-core processor, qHD display, and no 4G LTE are looking likely. It should come as a nice upgrade to past Droid models, though it doesn’t look to be as groundbreaking as the original.

Plants vs. Zombies Now Available on Android, Amazon Appstore Free App of the Day

It has taken PopCap long enough, but their library of quality games is finally starting to make its way over to Android. The latest to become available is one of their most popular games to date, Plants vs. Zombies, which is now downloadable from the Amazon Appstore. Normally priced at $2.99, the game is being offered as Amazon’s free app of the day.

The bad news is that the game isn’t compatible with several older and mid-ranged devices, including the original Motorola Droid and T-Mobile MyTouch 3G It is also a fairly large download at 75MB, so be prepared to free up some space if necessary.

Don’t worry, folks outside of the US. PopCap has plans to launch the game in the Android Market as well. Everyone who can get it now head on over to the Amazon Appstore for the free download. Now, PopCap, where’s my Peggle?

Google Nexus 3 image found then taken down – ‘politely’

May 30th, 2011 by Android Dev

The image seen above is apparently a test device given to “a buddy that works in the Android Dev Labs”, and is supposed to be the next Nexus (Nexus 3 or whatever they decide to call it). Google may be in talks with HTC and LG over who the next manufacturer will be of the Google branded smartphone (which we all admire for getting prompt Android updates before anyone else). Notice the missing buttons on the bottom of the touchscreen. Despite the sketchiness of the source, it stands to reason that this could be a new Android device for testing, whether it’s actually the ‘Nexus 3′ we, or anyone for that matter currently, can not determine. It was said that Android Ice Cream Sandwich would not need to rely on stationary buttons for navigation through the Android OS, but again, this is all speculation.

One more little tidbit to add some controversy here is that the original source who leaked this image online no longer has the article. When you hit the techhog source link below, you’ll only find this statement;

(Information removed per request)

Sorry everyone, I’ve been politely asked to remove the information from this page regarding the 3rd Nexus. I apologize for the inconvenience.

That adds a layer of ‘fishiness’ does it not? Who asked for it to be taken down? HTC, LG, Google?

Samsung Galaxy S II hits 1 million sold – fastest selling Samsung device

May 30th, 2011 by Android Dev

This shouldn’t be TOO much of a surprise for anyone who has heard of the Samsung Galaxy S II and how much it kicks butt like Chuck Norris kicks in teeth while sleeping, but it is now the title holder of fastest selling Samsung device to date. After it launched on April 29th 2011, it has sold one new device every 3 seconds on average, making a total of over 1 million devices sold so far.

The Samsung Galaxy S II hasn’t really hit all the markets yet in North America, but it’s about to very shortly, even if the Galaxy S III is apparently already in planning. Once we can all grab one at any carrier of our choice overseas here, that number is going straight up.
