Steampunk Skull Live Wallpaper

November 30th, 2011 by Android Dev

Here’s a live wallpaper that’s a little bit different than your probably used to, Steampunk Skull. Offered in both paid and free versions, this live wallpaper adds some edge to any tablet or smartphone and can be found in the Android Market.

At first I tried the free version and loved it so much that I decided to get the paid version that costs only $1.49. Both wallpapers feature the same image that you see above, a steampunk style skull with moving gears and lighting effects that all change with touch interaction. While looking at the wallpaper without touching your screen, the gears move at a slow constant pace and the light tube thing on the left produces an evenly glowing wavelength. Upon swiping left or right on the screen you will notice the gears change pace and the old school light bulb starts to flicker with an eerie glow, that’s my favorite kind of LW, the ones that change with touch interaction.

There are a few differences between the free and paid versions and the measly price of $1.49 is well worth the upgrade. The paid version allows for 6 different themes and has customization options that are not available on the free version. If you’re the type to frequently change your wallpaper than the paid version is probably for you. A simple double tap of the background will cycle through the themes and there is bound to be a color/gear combo to suit any mood. To check out this live wallpaper hit one of the links below. I suggest that you give the free version a spin and if you like it then support the developers and go with the paid.

ASUS Eee Pad MeMo Launching In January – Ice Cream Sandwich and Included Phone Ready To Go

November 30th, 2011 by Android Dev

You may remember when we showed you the ASUS Eee Pad MeMo along side the Padfone back at trade show in China a few months back. Well, thanks to our friends at Netbooknews — who gave us the Transformer Prime launch date a few hours ago — we now know the ASUS Eee Pad MeMo is scheduled to hit market sometime in January.

The Eee Pad MeMo is a 7-inch tablet that will have Ice Cream Sandwich ready to boot at launch and an included Bluetooth “MeMic” remote/phone complete with a futuristic transparent glass display. The little mini phone can be used to makes calls, listen to music or control whatever media is on your tablet — all completely wire-free.

While I appreciate the lengths ASUS is going to innovate their Android tablets, I’m still unsure if the included Bluetooth mini-phone is a novelty or something that could be truly useful when paired with a tablet. What do you guys think? Does the MeMo hit the mark or miss it completely?

China’s First Tablet Rocking Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwiched Demoed [Video]

Never one to stay behind the curve as far as technology is concerned, China is all set to receive their own taste of Ice Cream Sandwich with thanks to this mysterious tablet running Android 4.0.1. The 10-inch tab — which is apparently a Xoom knockoff (I don’t see it) — runs Android 4.0 surprisingly well, thanks mostly in part to its (can we start calling it last generation yet?) Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor. The rest of the hardware isn’t too shabby either with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a pair of cameras, GPS, HMDMI and a 3G SIM card slot. Pretty much the whole shibang.

The tablet doesn’t come equipped with the usual Google apps and the company showing off the tablet has yet to release pricing or availability but the source did say it would be “not so expensive.” I think it’s pretty neat to see how much better Ice Cream Sandwich will make the world — even for cheaper “kockoff” devices like this. If you want to see it in action (and the tablet form of Ice Cream Sandwich), check out the video below.

HTC Raider (Holiday) Passes Through The FCC En Route to AT&T

November 30th, 2011 by Android Dev

We’re getting closer and closer to getting our hands on the long awaited HTC Raider, once known by its former code name, the Holiday.  As word continues to trickle down the pipeline, it looks like the now Canadian blessed handset could be making its way to the US, possibly by year’s end.  The device still shows strong signs of being AT&T bound due to its 850 and 1900 GSM bands.  In addition, we speculate that it’s possible we could see the device by the end of the year because it’s just been touched by the gods of FCC.  The Raider will come equipped with a 4.5-inch qHD touch display, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 meg camera and 1 GB of RAM.  Storage wise, the device will house 16 GB of internal memory and also come packed with a 1.3 meg front facer for you video chatter boxes.  Feel free to let us know what you think of the device in the comments below.
